Sanctuaire: Spectre de Mondes Passés – Review

Hold on tight, if you haven’t listened to Spectre de Mondes Passés, you’ve missed a real gem! Monarque, once again the mastermind behind the project, opens the doors of Sanctuaire to deliver an offering of Québécois black metal. The spiritual successor to the demo Helserkr, Spectre presents melodic and fiery black metal that hits hard from the very first notes.

The “garage” production perfectly suits the tracks, which swing between heroism, ferocity, and melancholy. The riffs hit you like a shovel on ice, and Monarque’s screams make you feel every rock, tree, and stream of our ancestral forests. The album was carefully composed and assembled over the past four years, and it shows in every note: it’s an ode to nature, ancient spirits, and the purest black metal tradition.

Each track is a journey, balancing melancholy and raw power. The arrangements—guitars, bass, keyboards and unexpected little touches—add a mystical flavor, as if the ancient spirits of past worlds were whispering in your ear. As the old saying goes: “It grabs you right in the chest and soul, no kidding!”

All in all, Spectre de Mondes Passés isn’t just an album—it’s a true musical sanctuary. Monarque proves he’s a master of his craft, and that Québécois black metal still has plenty of spectres to reveal. As the old folks used to say: “It hits like a snowstorm, and you’re left wanting more!”
