The name Hak-Ed Damm originates from Ancient Hebrew, meaning “field of blood,” a biblical place associated with Judas Iscariot. A name heavy with symbolism that fits perfectly with the universe of Destructio Purificalis, a devastating third album released through Black Market Metal Label and still available on CD via the band’s Bandcamp page.
Right from the opening track, “Triomphe de la Mort”, the lyrics depict without compromise a world reduced to ashes by nuclear apocalypse. The imagery is strikingly powerful: “The nuclear dawn / By thousands of suns the earth is conquered / Planetary ashtray…”. One is immediately plunged into a universe where total war and the end of humanity are brought to life through devastating intensity.
Musically, Hak-Ed Damm forges a sonic battlefield, savage and relentless. The band pushes extreme black metal to its peak, chaining razor-sharp riffs, icy melodies, and martial atmospheres that perfectly reflect the apocalyptic themes. The arrival of new vocalist Winterthrone adds an inhuman, chilling dimension with his piercing screams, ideal to embody this tale of desolation.
It is impossible not to highlight the performance of drummer Silencer, the true driving force of the group. His precise strikes, merciless blasts, and stamina give the album the weight of a steamroller. The pace never falters, and it is this percussive intensity that propels the songs into a constant state of urgency and imminent chaos.
Throughout the record, the Québécois impose a writing style that unites fury and thematic coherence. Tracks like “Chaos Planétaire”, “Le Clan des Cannibales” or “L’Ultime Ogive” stand out as chapters of a sonic fresco where visions of war, famine, and human downfall succeed one another. The album unfolds as a conceptual suite, each piece reinforcing the narrative of a world in agony.
By combining raw power, apocalyptic vision, and artistic coherence, Hak-Ed Damm delivers with Destructio Purificalis a defining release of the Québec black metal scene. An album to discover and to own, both for its destructive force and its thematic depth.
The CD is still available, and you can follow Hak-Ed Damm on their Bandcamp page: Hak-Ed Damm.
